BootNode is [seeking 702,000 CC from the Canton Development Fund](https://github.com/canton-foundation/canton-dev-fund/pull/888) to build canton-testkit, a shared library for testing Canton applications from start to finish.

Before a team can test whether its app works, it has to prepare test users, fund them, connect a wallet session, submit transactions and check what happened on the ledger. The proposed toolkit would handle that repeated setup so each project does not have to build it again.

A developer could use it to prepare two test accounts, send a transfer and confirm that the recipient’s balance changed correctly. It would work with existing testing tools and Canton’s wallet interfaces, rather than require teams to adopt a new test runner.

An environment check would run before tests begin, checking that the wallet gateway and relevant network services are reachable and configured correctly. This would help identify setup problems before they are mistaken for failures in the application.

The first version is designed for local and automated development tests. It would use test identities whose transactions are signed by the node, with browser-wallet signing reserved for later work. Teams would provide their own running development environment; the toolkit would check it and use it.

BootNode has split the request into two milestones. The first, worth 528,000 CC, would deliver a documented release that an outside developer can install and use to run a passing test. The second, worth 174,000 CC, would apply it to the dAppBooster example app and the Canton wallet repository’s ping and portfolio examples.

The [proposal is awaiting a champion](https://github.com/canton-foundation/canton-dev-fund/blob/aa92ecfe1d4646363a80bfa4b1a2b9d9617e6bad/rfps/developer-experience-tooling-education/2026-10-BootNode-canton-testkit.md) to take it through the fund’s review process. BootNode plans to release the library under the MIT open-source license, with payment only after the committee accepts each milestone and no upfront funding requested.
