# Canton Network Has Burned 4.3 Billion Canton Coin Since Launch

Canton Network has burned 4.3 billion Canton Coin since launching in mid-2024, representing more than $500 million worth of CC destroyed in roughly two years of network operation.

Daily burns are accelerating as institutional activity on the network scales. The burn figure reflects fees collected across traffic purchases, preapproval burns, setup burns, dust expiry, holding fees, and sender change fees, all of which are burned in full under Canton's fee model.

The numbers are set to grow further. Digital Asset co-founder Shaul Kfir has outlined plans to extend CC burning beyond the Global Synchronizer to every synchronizer on the network. Today, validators only burn CC and earn rewards when operating through the Global Synchronizer. Institutions and infrastructure providers running dedicated synchronizers sit outside that economic model entirely. A CIP draft expected in September would bring all synchronizers into the same fee and reward structure, with burn scaling with the volume and throughput routed through each synchronizer. Existing private synchronizers already in production are expected to migrate once the incentives are in place. A phased rollout is targeted across the first half of 2027.
