A new agreement with Meritz Securities puts Korean asset tokenization back in focus. Zebec is connecting an institutional wallet to its payments suite, while Cashen has passed half a billion locked Canton Coin and DRW and Marex have completed a swap on the network. The latest announcements also bring practical updates for traders, developers and node operators.

## Payments and institutional markets

**1\. Meritz Securities signs a Canton cooperation agreement.** Meritz Securities has [announced an agreement with the Canton Foundation](https://www.hankyung.com/article/202610140312P) to explore tokenizing Korean financial assets and using privacy-enabled blockchain infrastructure in domestic capital markets. The agreement was signed earlier in October at its Seoul headquarters.

Cooperation would expand in stages as the regulatory framework develops. This is groundwork for potential financial services, not a product launch. It follows the separate [KB Securities and Wavebridge agreement](https://cantonnews.org/kb-securities-signs-mou-with-canton-foundation-and-wavebridge-to-build-distributed-ledger-based-digital-asset-infrastructure), adding another Korean securities firm to the institutions evaluating how Canton could fit their markets.

**2\. Zebec adds C8 to its Canton payments plans.** Zebec is [integrating C8 Enterprise Wallet](https://x.com/Zebec_HQ/status/2110007689468125540) into its product suite. The [Cantor8 wallet](https://cantonnews.org/projects/c8-wallet) is built for institutional self-custody, with multi-asset management, high-throughput transfers and configurable workflows.

The planned combination connects those controls with Zebec’s payroll and payments tools, giving institutions a way to move funds on Canton while retaining control of their assets. For a treasury team, the useful connection is between how payments are organised and how the assets used to make them are held.

**3\. Cashen passes 500 million locked CC.** [Cashen](https://cantonnews.org/projects/cashen) has reached [more than 500 million CC in live locking deals](https://cantonnews.org/cashen-passes-500-million-locked-canton-coin-worth-over-60-million), worth over $60 million at the prices used in its [October 13 announcement](https://x.com/Cashen_cc/status/2110037914587668750). It follows the [330 million CC milestone in September](https://cantonnews.org/cashen-s-canton-marketplace-grows-to-65-platforms).

The marketplace connects applications and Super Validators needing locked CC with holders willing to supply it. The locking agreements let suppliers retain custody while their CC counts towards an applicant’s requirements. The practical benefit is access to the required locked capital without an applicant having to source the full amount from its own holdings.

**4\. DRW and Marex complete a swap on Derivnex.** The firms have [executed a total return swap on Canton](https://www.canton.network/canton-network-press-releases/derivnex-launches-industry-first-otc-swap-on-canton-with-drw-and-marex) referencing S&P Dow Jones Indices’ iBoxx USD Liquid Investment Grade Index. Kaiko tokenized the index and supplies its official values for pricing the position.

A total return swap gives a counterparty exposure to an asset or index without owning it directly. Here, the two firms [share a record of the contract and its subsequent valuations](https://cantonnews.org/s-p-dow-jones-indices-and-kaiko-power-the-first-otc-swap-on-canton-executed-by-drw-and-marex), reducing the need to reconcile separate records. Connecting cash and collateral to that workflow remains planned functionality.

## Trading and building

**5\. Unhedged prepares markets on AI computing costs.** [Unhedged](https://cantonnews.org/projects/unhedged) has previewed [AI compute markets](https://x.com/UnhedgedHQ/status/2110023065446891643), where users would take a view on changes in the price of rented GPU time. GPUs are the processors used for much of the computation behind AI models.

This is a proposed new subject for its prediction markets, rather than another way to operate an account. That distinction separates it from the [AI-assistant trading connection](https://cantonnews.org/unhedged-adds-trading-through-ai-assistants) added earlier this month. The compute markets are coming soon.

**6\. Canborsa distributes Trading Arena rewards.** Participants can check their balances following [Canborsa’s payout announcement](https://x.com/Canborsa_DEX/status/2110014411062525973). The [Canborsa](https://cantonnews.org/projects/canborsa) team has also signalled a second season.

The [first competition](https://cantonnews.org/canborsa-opens-trading-arena-with-rewards-of-up-to-16-000-usdc) ran from September 9 to October 9, with a prize pool linked to trading-volume milestones.

**7\. dAppBooster joins the HackCanton Starter Pack.** AppsFactory has [included BootNode’s open-source starter](https://x.com/appsfactory_cc/status/2109972479011922200) in its [HackCanton Season 3](https://cantonnews.org/hackcanton-season-3-sets-september-17-start-and-october-21-final) resources and developer-tools collection. It combines a local Canton network, wallet support and a starter interface, so teams have a working foundation to adapt.

The tool’s [demos and setup guides](https://cantonnews.org/canton-s-developer-update-adds-dappbooster-demos-and-setup-guides) were already available earlier in October. The new development is its inclusion in the hackathon’s starting resources, putting those tools closer to teams deciding how to build.

## Network operations and governance

**8\. Another group receives MainNet validator allocations.** An [allocation notice published on October 13](https://lists.sync.global/g/supervalidator-announce/message/626) includes Canborsa, Bron Foundation, ChainHub and Prometheum. It carries the subject date October 12.

We counted 30 list entries but 24 distinct organisation names, because six names appear twice. These are allocations to operate validator nodes, not confirmation that every node is already running.

**9\. Splice upgrades advance on two networks.** Splice [0.8.4 is ready for MainNet deployment](https://lists.sync.global/g/validator-announce/message/221), while [0.9.0 is ready for TestNet](https://lists.sync.global/g/validator-announce/message/220). Both October 13 notices confirm that two-thirds of Super Validator nodes had upgraded, including the Global Synchronizer Foundation’s node.

These notices move the networks beyond the [October 5 deployment stages](https://cantonnews.org/canton-advances-splice-upgrades-across-mainnet-and-testnet). Operators should match the release to their environment: the 0.9.0 notice is for TestNet, not MainNet.

![Splice 0.8.4 is ready for validator deployment on MainNet, and 0.9.0 on TestNet, in the October 13, 2026 notices.](https://pnyaxwohgkgczwuvbaqg.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/article-images/cantonnews/2026-10-14/9bd77b0b065de4cbbfdb36322a385b34049c0d53527d62edeb4b7c8f9b64b225-roundup-splice.webp)

_The October 13 releases apply to different environments. Sources:_ [_MainNet notice_](https://lists.sync.global/g/validator-announce/message/221) _and_ [_TestNet notice_](https://lists.sync.global/g/validator-announce/message/220)_. Readiness for deployment does not mean every validator has upgraded._

**10\. SBC seeks Featured Asset recognition.** The Stable Coin Company has [submitted a Featured App request for SBC](https://lists.sync.global/g/tokenomics/message/1360), its Brale-issued dollar stablecoin. The application seeks participation in the Featured Asset reward framework for qualifying transfers, payments and settlement activity.

SBC is already on Canton MainNet. The new development is the recognition request, not a token launch or approval. It builds on an existing payments use case: [Visa and Brale’s June proof-of-concept announcement](https://cantonnews.org/visa-and-brale-explore-private-stablecoin-settlement-on-canton) identified SBC for exploring private institutional settlement on Canton.

**11\. Universal Burn discussions clarify what would be public.** New [responses from the proposal’s authors](https://lists.sync.global/g/cip-discuss/message/890) explain that payments for activity on dedicated synchronizers would burn CC on the Global Synchronizer. Those purchases would be publicly visible, while detailed transaction activity on the dedicated system would remain private from Super Validators.

Synchronizers coordinate transactions between Canton participants. The [Universal Burn proposal](https://cantonnews.org/canton-proposal-would-extend-cc-burn-across-mainnet) would bring dedicated systems into Canton’s existing burn-and-reward economy. Volume pricing would depend on how much data the system handles per second, not the financial value of assets moving through it. The authors expect the first release to require Super Validator approval to register a dedicated synchronizer, with self-registration following later.

The framework remains a proposal. A [separate clarification](https://lists.sync.global/g/cip-discuss/message/891) confirms that it does not change CC issuance. Its significance is the proposed connection between private network activity and the shared CC economy, not a newly approved reduction in rewards.
