At least six global blockchain projects have pursued financial partnerships in South Korea over the past three months, with Canton Network and Solana standing out for the depth of engagement they have built with the country's financial institutions, according to industry sources cited by the Seoul Economic Daily.

Canton Network's Korean footprint has expanded across multiple entry points simultaneously. [Hanwha Investment and Securities](https://cantonnews.org/hanwha-plans-its-first-tokenized-product-on-canton), [Shinhan Securities, and Shinhan Venture Investment](https://cantonnews.org/shinhan-financial-group-signs-canton-network-mous-to-bring-korean-assets-to-global-investors) have invested in Digital Asset, the US company that developed Canton. Shinhan Asset Management is participating as a Canton validator, meaning Korean financial firms are joining the ecosystem through both capital and network operations. Canton views Korea as one of its main Asian markets and is said to be exploring local hiring to deepen its direct engagement with domestic financial firms.

The competitive field is broad. Solana is working with Toss Bank on cross-border remittances, completed a digital meal voucher proof of concept with Kwangju Bank, and is pursuing tokenisation of a won-denominated ultra-short-term bond fund with Shinhan Asset Management. Chainlink is participating in Project Pangaea, a stablecoin-based international remittance initiative involving ten Korean banks. Optimism is testing a won-denominated stablecoin with Toss and has moved into tokenised financial products with DB Securities, KB Securities, and Securitize. Avalanche is the foundation for Hanwha's tokenised securities platform. Plume is testing won-denominated financial product tokenisation with Shinhan Asset Management.

The approaches to the Korean market differ as much as the use cases. Solana, Plume, and Optimism each have Korea heads communicating directly with domestic financial firms. Avalanche has a vice president overseeing business outside the US. Chainlink is working through local blockchain firm Fair Square Lab. Canton is said to be considering local hiring as its Korean institutional ties deepen.

Behind the acceleration is a regulatory shift. South Korea's tokenised securities framework is set to take effect in early 2027, and discussions on a won-denominated stablecoin are ongoing. Banks are focusing on remittances and payments, while brokerages and asset managers are oriented toward tokenised securities and fund tokenisation.

Competition has become intense enough that some blockchain projects are offering grants to financial firms to win business, one industry official told the publication. Most partnerships, however, remain at the memorandum-of-understanding or proof-of-concept stage. Financial firms are reviewing multiple blockchains simultaneously, and actual issuance, trading, and settlement of financial products is expected to be the measure that separates the winners.
