## What are Virtual Orderbooks?

A Virtual Orderbook is a private instance of the Temple Lightspeed trading environment. It is a primitive that allows for the creation of spot, prediction, and perpetual markets. _With_ [_Virtual Orderbooks_](https://templedigitalgroup.com/virtual-orderbooks)[_,_](https://templedigitalgroup.com/news/virtual-orderbooks-a-solution-build-and-deploy-custom-trading-venues-on-canton) _Temple opens up its proprietary trading engine to institutions interested in building platforms compatible with Canton network infrastructure and emerging tokenization standards._

_The venue deployer configures an exchange's economics, access controls, and compliance rules while Temple operates the underlying infrastructure._

_Each venue is:_

- Sovereign. The deployer owns venue configuration, data, and policy. Temple infrastructure provides the platform but does not see the venue operator's information.
- Private by default. Order flow, balances, and participant identities stay within the venue’s permissioned set. Canton’s privacy model is applied to any actions taken on the platform.
- Embedded Compliant Controls . Operator-defined KYC, jurisdictional and eligibility rules are enforced at order submission and at match.
- High performance. Sub-10ms matching with price-time priority and MEV resistance.
- Connectivity. Native atomic onchain settlement with any DAML application on Canton.

_Virtual Orderbooks are the first item within Temple’s upcoming Market Development Framework. Each Market Development Framework item sits within a Temple Improvement Proposal. Virtual Orderbooks are marked internally as TIP-1._ Additional TIPs will follow.
