It was an honor to participate as a panelist alongside SungMo Park, of @a16zcrypto, Glenn (Deok Soo) Woo, Head of APAC at @BlockdaemonHQ, and Seungsik Yoon, Yoon of @tiger_research_, in front of 40+ major Korean financial institutions. The discussion on “What Tokenized Finance Means for Institutional Investors” was substantive and timely. A big thank you to Altus for organizing such a high-caliber forum, and to my fellow panelists for the insightful exchange. As @sungmo_apac16z highlighted in his recent piece “Inside Asia’s Institutional Blockchain Race: South Korea Edition,” Korea is shifting rapidly from retail crypto leadership to institutional infrastructure, driven by stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Major players like KB Financial Group, Hana Financial, Shinhan Card, Mirae Asset Securities, Woori Bank, Hanwha Asset Management and others are actively running pilots in payments, remittances, tokenized ship financing, defense supply chains, and more. Regulatory foundations are forming, creating a clear window for strategic partnerships. This environment makes Korea exceptionally ripe for institutional collaboration right now. Institutions have made it clear they intend to leverage their familiar Ethereum tooling, smart contracts, and developer workflows while tapping into Canton’s institutional-grade privacy, compliance, and settlement capabilities.
