The Technical Working Group is one of three governing bodies within the Canton Foundation’s committee structure. Scope: Protocol standards, upgrade procedures, infrastructure policy, and the technical requirements for network participation. Every protocol-level CIP runs through this group before reaching the Super Validator vote. Recent output includes the evaluation and recommendation of CIP-0117 (Logical Synchronizers), which eliminated multi-hour coordinated synchronizer downtime during protocol upgrades. The Technical Working Group assessed the architecture, validated the upgrade mechanism, and recommended approval. Like the Tokenomics Working Group, the Technical Working Group does not set policy unilaterally. It researches, evaluates, and recommends. Final decisions require a two-thirds supermajority vote from 55 Super Validators. Protocol evolution on Canton is not driven by a core team shipping code. It is driven by working groups evaluating proposals, committees recommending action, and validators voting on outcomes.
