Fireblocks has published a practical guide to tokenized collateral on Canton, bringing its available infrastructure and controls into one clear picture for financial institutions.
Collateral is the cash, securities or other assets pledged to support a trade or obligation. Moving it between firms can take time and often involves several systems, approvals and operating teams. Tokenization can make that movement quicker while preserving the controls institutions require.
The Fireblocks analysis arrives as more firms prepare to use tokenized collateral in live operations.
A Nasdaq and ValueExchange survey of 203 market participants found that 52% expected to manage live tokenized collateral by the end of 2026. It also found that 70% experienced settlement matching and delivery problems each day.
Fireblocks already supports several parts of a Canton workflow. Institutions can use Canton wallets with custody support, interact with smart contracts built using Daml and complete actions such as settling a trade, pledging collateral or managing a repo transaction.
The platform also supports two-step transfers. An incoming asset can arrive as an offer that the receiving institution accepts before the transaction is completed. This gives both sides a clear role in the process.
Firms can use Fireblocks’ Canton validator infrastructure, which operates across two regions with disaster recovery, or connect a validator they run themselves.
Fireblocks also lists support for Canton Coin transfers, USDC on Canton and the addition of compatible assets through its platform.
The same approval rules used elsewhere in Fireblocks can be applied to Canton transactions. A firm can decide who may initiate a pledge, who must approve it and in what order. The client retains control of its keys, approvals and assets throughout the process.
Before going live, firms still need to choose their node setup, confirm the contracts and counterparties they will use, decide how the cash side will settle and put reporting in place.
By bringing these capabilities together, Fireblocks gives institutions a practical checklist for preparing Canton collateral workflows and moving them into production.
