USDXLR expands stablecoin lending and trading on Canton

USDXLR holders can now lend through Alpend or swap the stablecoin for Canton Coin on OneSwap. The integrations add two uses for an asset whose circulating supply is already concentrated on Canton.

USDXLR holders now have two more ways to use the stablecoin on Canton: lend it through Alpend or exchange it for Canton Coin on OneSwap. Both integrations were announced on October 15.

Alpend has opened USDXLR supply with an advertised 10% bonus APY paid in CC, on top of lending interest. OneSwap has added a USDXLR/CC pair, giving holders a market for exchanging the two tokens.

USDXLR is Excellar’s dollar-denominated stablecoin. Its transparency page lists reserves including USDC and OpenEden tokenized Treasury bills. The new integrations concern how holders can use USDXLR after acquiring it: earning lending interest or trading between the stablecoin and CC.

Two uses for USDXLR on Canton: supply the stablecoin on Alpend, or swap USDXLR and Canton Coin on OneSwap. The October 15 integrations add lending through Alpend and token swaps through OneSwap.

Stablecoin lending through Alpend

Alpend is a Canton lending platform. Suppliers place assets into shared pools, while borrowers use collateral to take out loans. Interest paid by borrowers provides the lending return, which changes with borrowing demand and the market’s settings.

The USDXLR offer adds a promotional reward in CC to that interest. Its advertised 10% annualised rate applies to the bonus, not the total return. The dollar value of those rewards can change with CC’s price.

Alpend has used a similar approach with CC rewards for CBTC suppliers. The new integration extends that model to a dollar-denominated asset.

Access remains restricted during Alpend’s mainnet beta. Wallets need approval, and the platform applies deposit caps. Withdrawals depend on available pool liquidity. A user who has also borrowed must leave enough collateral to support the loan.

Trading USDXLR for Canton Coin on OneSwap

OneSwap is a token-swap and liquidity platform for Canton assets. The new pair lets holders move between USDXLR and CC through its liquidity pools.

OneSwap’s v2 release introduced single-transaction swaps. Adding USDXLR expands the choice of assets available through that system. For someone holding CC, the pair also provides a route into USDXLR without first exchanging it for another dollar token.

Most USDXLR already circulates on Canton

Excellar’s transparency dashboard recorded 329,667.22 tokens in circulation at 06:00:39 UTC on October 16, with 320,425.51 on Canton—about 97.2% of the total. The remaining supply was on Stellar and Ethereum.

Excellar’s October 16 snapshot: 329,667.22 USDXLR in circulation, of which 320,425.51, or 97.2 percent, was on Canton. Buying USDXLR on an exchange differs from redeeming it with Excellar: direct redemption requires an approved Excellar account, available only to eligible institutions.

What holders gain

The practical gain is more choice within Canton. A holder can exchange USDXLR for CC through OneSwap or supply it to Alpend without first switching to another dollar token. For a stablecoin already concentrated on this network, those are useful additions to simply holding a balance.

How useful the integrations become at scale will depend on liquidity available for swaps and borrowing demand behind the lending returns. Those measures will show whether the new routes attract sustained use beyond the promotional rewards.
