Alpend is now a General Member of the Canton Foundation.

The foundation brings together institutions, infrastructure providers, and builders working to advance the Canton Network as a coordination layer for financial markets.

For Alpend, joining the foundation reflects our commitment to building the infrastructure that allows decentralized finance to emerge on Canton.

Why Canton Matters

Most blockchains optimize for transparency and open execution.

Financial markets operate under different constraints.

They require privacy between counterparties, deterministic transaction execution, and coordination across institutions and applications.

Canton was designed with these realities in mind.

Its architecture enables applications to interoperate while maintaining selective disclosure and institutional-grade control over data and execution.

This creates the foundation for real financial markets to move on-chain.

The Missing Layer: DeFi Infrastructure

Architecture alone does not create markets.

Markets require liquidity, credit, and capital coordination.

That is the role DeFi infrastructure plays.

Liquidity primitives, credit markets, and shared financial components allow capital to move efficiently between applications and participants.

Without this layer, financial activity cannot scale.

Building this infrastructure is where Alpend is focused.

Contributing Through the Canton Foundation

As a General Member of the Canton Foundation, Alpend contributes across working committees, helping shape the network’s evolution.

These committees coordinate ecosystem development and technical direction across the network.

Participation ensures that DeFi infrastructure evolves in alignment with Canton’s architectural principles.

Our work focuses on three areas:

DeFi plumbing - Core infrastructure that enables liquidity and credit to move across applications.

Liquidity primitives - Reusable financial components developers can integrate into their applications.

Public goods - Shared infrastructure designed to accelerate development across the ecosystem.

These building blocks help new financial applications launch faster and operate more efficiently.

The Road Ahead

Canton introduces a new model where privacy, composability, and institutional-grade infrastructure coexist.

This environment enables a different generation of financial markets.

The opportunity ahead is not simply replicating existing DeFi protocols.

It is building financial infrastructure designed for real markets.
