Splice 0.7.2 has been released with a practical set of updates for the people running and governing the Global Synchronizer.
The official release notes show that the update moves Splice to Canton 3.5.13. It also brings official support for session signing keys to KMS-enabled validator and Super Validator participants.
For operators using a key management service, session keys give a node a short lived signing key for routine protocol messages. For most of those messages, the node can use a key held in memory rather than call the KMS each time. Canton’s key-management documentation explains that this reduces KMS calls, along with the load and cost associated with them.
The release also updates Super Validator voting. As long as a vote request remains open, an SV can now cast or change its vote after the proposal’s target effective time has passed. If a proposal’s action fails to execute, an SV can reject the proposal while the request remains open rather than leave it unresolved.
Splice 0.7.2 also introduces a new SV-app setting for traffic-purchase, or top up, requests. It defaults to a two minute submission window. Networks bootstrapped on an earlier version keep their existing setting until enough SVs upgrade, and SVs can override the new configuration value.
The release also makes the network banner always visible and improves the form used to propose reward settings, with clearer descriptions and drop-down menus.
