Broadridge’s Distributed Ledger Repo platform processed $7.5 trillion in repo transactions during September, averaging $359 billion a day. The figures, released on October 8, cover a full month of activity on the company’s Canton-based securities financing service.

Repo is a form of short-term borrowing. One party sells securities, often government bonds, and agrees to buy them back later at a slightly higher price. The arrangement lets institutions raise cash against securities they hold.

DLR brings the agreement, execution and settlement of those trades onto a shared ledger. Its Canton-based infrastructure handles collateral movements and trade processing, including intraday repo, where institutions borrow and lend cash during the day.

The platform also supports cross-border repo transactions and the use of securities from G7 markets as collateral. These capabilities give institutions ways to arrange funding and move collateral across entities, alongside the day-to-day processing of their trades.

DLR moved to Canton in 2023. The September figures provide a fresh measure of activity on an established platform, as Broadridge takes the infrastructure and experience behind it into other tokenized markets.

That expansion runs through DLX, Broadridge’s recently launched digital asset platform. DLX brings together services for issuing, trading, settling, holding and servicing tokenized assets, as well as governance and distribution. It supports multiple blockchains and connects on-chain activity with the processes firms already use.
