The Canton Foundation has published its Development Fund roadmap through 2028, setting out 28 areas where teams can apply for funding to improve Canton.
The priorities include making it easier to join as a validator, change the provider hosting a Canton account, and build and test applications. Shared identity standards could also allow applications to recognize checks completed by another provider, where appropriate, reducing repeated checks.
Security proposals cover independent reviews, key management and coordinated responses to incidents. The Foundation also wants ways to verify trading volumes and other market figures while keeping transaction details private.
The fund is supported by a 5% allocation from new Canton Coin issuance. Between September 2026 and September 2027, the Foundation aims to direct 80% of its Development Fund budget to proposals responding to its requests. Up to 20% is reserved for work outside the published roadmap.
Its targets for 2028 include at least 1,000 applications and at least 10,000 validator nodes across the network.
The submission guide asks teams to explain the problem they want to solve and who would use their work. Teams proposing projects outside the roadmap are expected to show demand and community support.
Applications follow the existing review process. Teams need clear milestones and a plan for maintaining what they build. Payments follow acceptance of the agreed milestones.
