CIP-0096 and CIP-0104: Canton no longer pays nodes that are merely online
As of 30 April 2026 Canton removed validator liveness rewards. On 18 August 2026, featured app rewards began to be calculated from sequencer traffic, not manual markers. This article summarizes the three CIPs that set those rules, plus what changed for operators and developers without claiming institutional volumes that are not visible on the public ledger.
