Canton plans to introduce new security methods over the next six to twelve months as it prepares for advances in quantum computing. Several partners are already testing an experimental option for digital signatures.
A powerful enough quantum computer could break some of the mathematical protections that keep digital information secure. Standards finalized by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology in 2024 are designed to resist that threat.
One of them is ML-DSA, which creates and checks digital signatures. These help establish who signed data and whether it has been changed. Canton currently offers ML-DSA through an experimental setting.
Canton's software is designed to accommodate new security methods, and Digital Asset plans to use that flexibility to extend quantum-resistant protection across the network's core services.
The work also involves encryption, additional signing methods and support from wallets, exchanges and developer tools. Digital Asset expects further work with partners toward the end of 2026.
The six-to-twelve-month target covers adding the new algorithms. The broader plan for moving users and applications over to them is still being developed.
