SBI Holdings has renamed its wholly owned subsidiary, SBI Security Solutions Co., Ltd., as SBI Digital Practice Co., Ltd., creating a dedicated business focused on on-chain finance through Canton Network.
The name change took effect on 22 June 2026 and was announced by SBI on 28 July. Alongside the new name, the subsidiary has updated its management and shifted its business towards financial infrastructure, software development and operational support built around Canton.
SBI said the restructuring forms part of its longer-term strategy to prepare for more financial products and transactions moving onto blockchain infrastructure.
What SBI Digital Practice will do
SBI Digital Practice will handle business development, system development and operations for on-chain finance.
Its responsibilities will include:
- Planning and developing financial infrastructure and applications on Canton Network
- Supporting implementations for financial institutions in Japan and overseas
- Developing transaction infrastructure that operates across countries and currencies
SBI said its goal is to help financial institutions participate in on-chain finance while meeting the regulations that apply in each market.
Building on SBI’s existing role
SBI Group has participated as a Canton Super Validator since the network’s inception. According to the company, it has also worked to encourage institutional participation and support the growth of the ecosystem.
The new structure gives that work a dedicated operating company. SBI Digital Practice will be responsible for developing infrastructure and applications, supporting institutional implementations and helping financial institutions operate on Canton.
For Canton, the significance is straightforward: a major Japanese financial group now has a wholly owned subsidiary specifically tasked with building and supporting services on the network.
The unit’s responsibilities cover both Japan and international markets, including infrastructure for transactions across national borders and currencies.
Institutional demand
SBI said Canton has more than 600 participating institutions, including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Broadridge, Franklin Templeton and Euroclear.
It also said the value of assets managed on the network has exceeded $6 trillion. The announcement cited DTCC’s adoption of Canton for the digital securitisation of US Treasuries as another sign that traditional financial assets are moving onto blockchain infrastructure.
SBI expects demand for institutional transaction infrastructure on Canton to continue growing.
