Canton opens MainNet vote for CantonBFT migration

A governance vote would schedule the MainNet move to CantonBFT for October 10. The proposed timetable separates the configuration change from the migration itself.

Canton Super Validators are voting on a MainNet migration to CantonBFT, with the upgrade proposed for October 10 at 13:00 UTC.

The vote concerns the Global Synchronizer, the shared infrastructure used to coordinate activity across Canton applications. It would set the timetable for the migration rather than carry out the change immediately.

The live proposal had six votes in favour and none against when checked on October 1. Voting closes just before 11:00 UTC on October 8.

If approved, the configuration scheduling the upgrade is targeted to take effect on October 9 at 11:00 UTC. The migration itself would follow on October 10 at 13:00 UTC. These are separate steps, so approval of the schedule would not mean the migration had already happened.

The new synchronizer would use protocol version 35. The operator notice and live proposal provide the technical details, including a preparatory topology freeze on October 9.

For now, the October 10 date remains a proposed upgrade time while voting is open.
