Send explains why its Canton Wallet went offline

Send says customer funds were untouched during an October outage. Its account distinguishes balances hidden from view from funds it moved to protect.

People who used Send to check their Canton balances lost that view when its wallet went offline on October 22. In an October 29 incident update, Send said nobody had accessed customer wallets or taken customer funds. The team said it had moved funds controlled by affected keys, including funds used by Pool Party and its bridge, to safety early in its response.

Why a balance stopped showing

A Canton Party ID identifies a participant on the ledger. People could connect theirs to Send to see what they held. When that display stopped working, the app could no longer show those holdings. Send said the interruption affected the view, rather than the assets behind it.

The distinction matters because Send also runs a bridge between Base and Canton. A bridge lets assets move between networks. Keys used to operate that service serve a different purpose from the credentials a customer uses to open a wallet. Send described a protective move involving the former; its update did not identify the underlying cause.

What Send told customers

On October 29, Send said it was working on recovery with Digital Asset, the Canton Foundation and Super Validators, the operators that help run the shared network. It promised a fuller account of the incident without giving a reopening date.

Send also gave users a way to spot an impersonator: the team said it would never message someone first or ask for a recovery phrase, passkey or keys. Its own channels are where it said it would share further updates.
