The Canton Foundation has introduced Community Research Grants, with up to 50,000 CC per month available to support independent research and education. The programme starts with work published in November and covers both written pieces and videos.

It is aimed at people who help others understand Canton: explaining how the network works, examining its applications or investigating its economics. Contributors do not have to be Foundation members, and the announcement explicitly welcomes research-backed criticism.

The programme at a glance

  • Monthly amount: up to 50,000 Canton Coin across the programme.
  • Eligible formats: original written research and video content.
  • First publication window: November 1 to November 30, 2026.
  • Terms: expected by November 15; no grants will be made before they are published.

What kind of work could qualify?

The Foundation lists several examples: explaining Canton Coin’s economics, analysing privacy and interoperability, examining financial uses such as settlement and collateral, and researching applications or adoption. Educational articles and videos can also be considered.

The common thread is usefulness. A piece should help its audience understand something better, with original work and evidence behind its claims. The categories are examples, not a closed list of approved topics.

How to bring work to the Foundation’s attention

For November, the announcement sets out three practical steps:

  1. Publish the work publicly between November 1 and November 30.
  2. Share its link on X, tag @CantonFdn and include #CantonResearchNov26.
  3. Share by December 4 for review in connection with November.

November research-grant dates: publish November 1–30 and share by December 4.

Dates for the first month. Foundation programme announcement.

Sharing is optional because the Foundation may also find work itself. Contributors should share only content they created or are authorised to represent, and disclose relevant sponsorships, financial interests or commercial relationships.

How awards will be decided

A Foundation review panel will consider research quality, educational value and contribution to public understanding. Artificial or purchased engagement will be disregarded. The announcement does not set a points-based scoring system or a fixed payment per article.

The grant is discretionary: the Foundation decides whether to award it, who receives it and how much to pay. The 50,000 CC figure is a monthly maximum for the programme, not an amount promised to each contributor. The Foundation may award less, or nothing, in a given month.

Before receiving a grant, a contributor must meet the forthcoming terms, complete identity verification and sanctions screening, and sign a grant agreement. Recipients will also need to disclose their grant. Awards are denominated in CC, so their dollar value can change.

Research does not have to be promotional

The Foundation says awards do not require a positive assessment of Canton or endorsement of a project. That is a useful distinction for researchers: an evidence-backed explanation of a limitation can contribute to public understanding just as a carefully documented success can.

For anyone considering a submission, the next document to read is the programme’s Terms and Conditions, expected on or before November 15. Those will govern eligibility and payments; the launch announcement sets out the general approach.
