Canton Strategic Holdings’ shares have completed their first tokenized trades on Canton, moving a plan announced last week into a working market. The November 4 transactions brought together Five North as the seller, DRW Cumberland as the buyer and Flowdesk as a liquidity provider.

The stock is CNTN, the company’s Nasdaq-listed common shares. In this arrangement, ownership is recorded on Canton and trading takes place through TSV, a venue restricted to approved participants. The company says token holders retain the same shareholder rights as holders of its stock through Nasdaq.

The trade at a glance

  • What traded: issuer-sponsored tokenized CNTN common shares.
  • Where: a permissioned TSV pool powered by Tradecraft.
  • Who keeps the ownership record: Fairmint TA, the company’s SEC-registered transfer agent.
  • What changed: the October agreement has now produced completed trades.

How shares reached the market

Five North already owned the stock. It asked for its shares to be registered in tokenized form, and Fairmint moved the position from a broker-dealer account to the company’s onchain shareholder register, linked to Five North’s verified Loop Wallet. Cumberland confirmed that it bought the first tokenized CNTN shares on TSV.

CNTN shares move from an existing shareholder through Fairmint’s ownership register to trading on TSV.

A transfer agent keeps the official record of who owns a company’s shares. Here, Fairmint also approves holders and wallets and applies the company’s transfer controls. That connects the token to the issuer’s ownership records and shareholder rights.

What “atomic settlement” means

Settlement is the completion of a trade: the buyer receives the shares and the seller receives payment. On this market, the two transfers happen together, or neither happens. That is atomic settlement.

TSV uses an automated market maker, a trading mechanism built around pools of assets supplied by liquidity providers. Flowdesk is providing liquidity for tokenized CNTN stock, giving approved buyers and sellers assets to trade against.

Who can trade

Access requires more than a wallet. Fairmint must verify and approve both the holder and the wallet, including identity checks and sanctions screening. TSV is designed for round-the-clock trading, subject to required trading stoppages, maintenance, risk controls and volume limits.

The company describes these as the first transactions in issuer-sponsored tokenized US equity under the SEC’s September 17 Innovation Exemption. The announcement does not disclose the value of the trades.

From an agreement to a completed trade

The October 29 plan set out how CNTN could reach TSV. The first trades came six days after that announcement.

For Canton, this is a concrete example of a public company’s stock trading and settling on the network. The next measure of progress will be whether that first transaction becomes a market that investors continue to use.
