Kaiko has joined the Canton Foundation’s Collateral Sub-Committee to help develop requirements for clearing houses and other financial-market operators to accept tokenized assets as collateral.
The October 7 announcement places Kaiko in a group examining how tokenized securities, cash and similar instruments can meet existing collateral requirements. The work covers legal, regulatory, risk and operational questions, including how safeguards used in traditional markets apply to these assets.
Kaiko brings two services to that work. Its Data On-Ramp makes licensed financial data available to blockchain applications while providers retain control over access. It can supply the prices used to value collateral as markets change. Foreign-exchange benchmarks from New Change FX are already available on Canton.
Kaiko Connect links institutions’ existing messaging systems with blockchain-based settlement, collateral movements and reporting. This gives the group expertise in connecting the tools financial firms already use with transactions on Canton.
The work builds on earlier activity across the network. In February, Canton’s industry working group completed cross-border intraday repo transactions using tokenized UK government bonds, including an exchange against tokenized deposits in another currency.
