Shinhan Asset Management has won approval for a Canton Super Validator program aimed at expanding the network's use across Korean finance. The proposal, approved on September 11, gives the asset manager a path to earn up to weight 10 in Super Validator rewards.
The program covers work on tokenized securities, real-world assets, won-denominated settlement assets and fund administration. Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Securities and Shinhan Fund Partners are expected to be involved alongside the asset manager, which is part of Shinhan Financial Group.
Super Validators help run the shared infrastructure that connects applications across Canton. They also take part in decisions about the network. Reward weight determines their relative share of the rewards available to Super Validators.
Shinhan's allocation is tied to delivery. Its commitments, deadlines and individual milestones have been agreed privately with the Canton Foundation's Tokenomics and Accountability Committees. Those details will remain confidential until Shinhan and the Foundation decide they are ready to be disclosed.
Rewards will accumulate in an escrow arrangement while the work progresses. Shinhan must provide evidence of completed milestones before the relevant rewards can be released and the associated weight activated through Canton's governance process.
The agreement also sets a timetable for operating its own Super Validator. Once Shinhan has been awarded more than 2.5 in weight, it must run its own node within six months. Its participation can therefore grow as the agreed work is completed and approved.
