Franklin Templeton Digital Assets has announced its new role as a Super Validator on Canton Network, expanding its involvement from tokenized fund deployment into the infrastructure supporting the network.
In its official announcement, Franklin Templeton said financial institutions should do more than simply use blockchains. They should also help run them. The firm described Canton as one of the networks accelerating the convergence of traditional finance and DeFi through infrastructure designed for institutional markets.
As a Super Validator, Franklin Templeton will support the operation of Canton’s Global Synchronizer. Super Validators are independent organizations that operate parts of this shared infrastructure, validate Canton Coin transactions and distribution, and participate in network governance and protocol development.

A role tied to measurable progress
Franklin Templeton’s participation is covered by CIP-0118, which was approved on June 10, 2026. The proposal provides a maximum potential Super Validator weight of five, earned in stages as specific milestones are completed and verified.
The first milestone requires at least one production treasury-management transaction on Canton Mainnet within six months of approval. This could involve tokenized US Treasuries, digital cash, or a repo or reverse repo transaction supporting fund operations.
Within nine months, Franklin Templeton must introduce operational, 24/7 creation and redemption for its tokenized fund, supported by the on-chain delivery and return of cash. These first two milestones are each worth one unit of Super Validator weight.
The firm can earn up to three additional units based on qualifying production volume over 18 months. The framework awards 0.5 weight for every $100 million of eligible fund shares created or redeemed through the approved on-chain process.
CIP-0118 also confirms that Franklin Templeton had already deployed a tokenized fund on Canton. Its Benji Technology Platform expanded to the network in November 2025, giving institutional clients access to tokenized investment products on Canton.
The Super Validator role takes that involvement beyond product integration and into the operation of the network itself, with additional weight linked to verified activity and production use.
