Zenith has shared an update on its work to connect EVM applications with Canton Network.
The team demonstrated an atomic swap between a CIP-56 asset on Canton and an ERC-20 asset on Zenith. The exchange was carried out through a Canton-native application on a feature-complete test network.
The demonstration involved a Canton user operating with a party ID and a Zenith user using an EVM account. The two assets were exchanged as part of the same transaction.
This work forms part of Zenith’s commitments under CIP-0091, the governance proposal that approved Zenith as a Canton Super Validator. One of the proposal’s deliverables is to demonstrate an atomic swap between a Daml-native asset on Canton and an asset running on Zenith EVM.
To support the connection between the two environments, Zenith developed external_call(). The function allows a Daml contract on Canton to interact with a Solidity contract on Zenith and return the result to the same workflow.
This is designed to ensure that the Canton and EVM parts of a transaction complete together rather than settling separately.
End-to-end support for external calls was delivered in July, according to the Canton GitHub tracker. The feature remains limited to a development protocol version and is not yet available on Canton MainNet.
Zenith expects external_call() to be introduced on Canton MainNet with the Canton 3.6 release in late Q3 or early Q4 2026. The team plans to bring Zenith EVM to Canton MainNet after the upgrade.
The next phase of the roadmap includes further testnet environments and early pilots ahead of production deployments.

Zenith also announced two appointments within Canton governance. Head of Product Norbert Vadas has joined the Canton Development Fund Core Contributors Group, while co-founder and CBO Heslin Kim has joined its Voting Committee.
